Programme for FFR Gisborne Field Trip
Date: Tuesday, 13th March 2012
Time: 7:30am – 4:30pm
Cost: $60.00pp (incl GST)
This field trip is intended to set the scene for the “Steeplands – Are We Managing the Risks?” Workshop being held the following day.
The field visits will provide workshop participants with a good overview of steepland erosion events, issues associated with managing risk on steep erosion prone land, and the practical steps being taken by forest managers to confront these problems.
7.30am – 9.00am Travel to Ikanui Forest
9.00am – 10.00am Ikanui to view and discuss storm event, resulting erosion and causes, impact on productivity, establishment, species selection
10.00am – 10.30am Travel to Eden Track – Discussion on establishment following harvesting
10.30am – 11.00am Travel to Maxwells Block Repeater site
11.00am – 12.00pm Maxwells Block – view and discuss planning, roading, harvesting and re- establishment
12.00pm – 1.00pm Lunch at Maxwells (Firestore option available if wet)
1.00pm – 1.30pm Travel to Hikurangi Forests Whareongaonga Block
1.30pm – 2.30pm Whareongaonga Block to discuss planning andharvesting of difficult steep face
2.30pm – 3.30pm Travel to Port Lookout
3.30pm – 4.15pm View and Discuss Port Operations
4.30pm Gisborne Wine Centre, on the Wharf
